Great Overload

More Great Egret overload

=

The incredibly showy Great Egret continues to delight on Deeping Highbank today. Very active but seemingly fearless, with it flying directly at me at one point and landing on the river bank below me- just outrageous views. Spent a superb 20 minutes or so this afternoon photographing it. No doubt there will be more to come, if it remains.

Whinchat at Deeping Highbank

It has been an exceptional Autumn for Whinchats, locally. Three were found on Deeping Highbank today and this one showed reasonably well this afternoon. Always good value and a great bird to catch up with during their migration south.

Another Sharky

Superb views of the Deeping Highbank Great White Egret. Probably the most fearless one I have seen in this country.

Brent Goose find

I found this Dark-bellied Brent Goose at Deeping Lakes on the 12th August. Was quite a surprise, as a patch tick in the middle of August! It seems to roost at Deeping Lakes and feed on the grass fields by the high bank a mile or less away during the day.

Suffolk Gull-billed Tern

This Gull-billed Tern at Alton Water in Suffolk was a new bird for me in Britain. There was no sign when we arrived so after a short while, we decided to try somewhere else. Thankfully as we walked back to the car, we looked back to see a camera pointing towards this beast. Eventually, it took off and we enjoyed some great views of it fishing around the reserve from height- something I have seen them doing on rivers in Europe and Australia.

Comet NEOWISE

Photo taken from the Cornish coast on the 20th July.

All that shines is Golden and Beautiful

A couple of new ones for me. Golden Ringed Dragonfly and Beautiful Demoiselle, both in the Cot Valley in Cornwall yesterday afternoon. Incredible views in the stream, the Golden Ringed being really loyal to two perches and the drake Beautiful Demoiselle occasionally coming to beat the GRD up! Brilliant! As ever, click for the bigger images.

Buzzard

Perhaps for most these days, Buzzard photos are not that exciting. For me they still are. As a youth, they were rare around here. Now they are common but still hard to photograph which is why this was a treat to photograph; it just went from post to post, as you would dream. Sometimes, it does go right.

Glow Worms!

It was too cloudy after sunset this evening for the Neowise Comet but the Glow Worms were putting on a fine display. The top two photos are of a pair mating, not often you see the non-glowing males!
