White's Thrush arrival

Was a bit of a morning on Shetland. Dipped on a probable Lancy Ash Howe found yesterday, first thing. Then headed back to base. Then Orca were spotted down south, so headed back down there. Famously, I love Orcas and having only experienced them once before I was keen to see again!

We managed to connect with the pod of four Orcas, just north of Mousa Island. Remarkably, exactly where we had Humpback and Minke Whale earlier in the week! Sadly, no photos but amazing scope views of this pod which including a big bull and what appear to be a calf.

The fog unfortunately stopped play with the whales but then a White's Thrush broke down at Quendale. Having seen the Spurn bird ages ago, I was quite chilled about it. Glad we went though- within ten seconds of leaving the car the bird nearly took our heads off as it flew at and around the crowd. It then gave decent views on a wall and then even better and pre-longed views on a woodpile. Very unlike White's Thrush! Eventually it flew round a barn never to be seen again! Elsewhere, there have been two others found on the Northern Isles today. A sign of more beasts from the east to come we hope!
